Deward James “Bumble Bee” Dickerson

1940-2008

Deward James “Bumble Bee” Dickerson, 68, of the Moak’s Creek community, died June 13, 2008, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. Visitation is Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb, and at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Moak’s Creek Baptist Church until services there at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Carl Adamson and the Rev. Mike Alexander officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Dickerson was born Feb. 18, 1940, in Fernwood, the son of Fredrick William Dickerson and Florence Elizabeth Ritchie Dickerson. He was a retired truck driver and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of Moak’s Creek Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother. He is survived by his wife of nearly 41 years, Lorena Cockerham Dickerson of Moak’s Creek; five children and their spouses, Angela and Michael Smith of Jetson, Ky., Freddie Dickerson and Darrel and Tammy Dickerson, all of Moak’s Creek, Denise and Fred Jointer of Wesson, and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Smith of Brookhaven; one brother and his wife, Denver Daniel and Dean Dickerson of Pine Grove, La.; five grandchildren, Kassi Dickerson, Faith Dickerson, Scott Smith and wife Lea Ann, Missy Bigner and husband David and Cody Smith and six great-grandchildren, Dalton Bigner, Joshua Bigner, Jacob Bigner, Nick Smith, Jestin Smith and Leslea Smith.

Pallbearers will be Darrel Dickerson, Freddie Dickerson, Howard Smith, Dewayne Dickerson, Michael Smith, Bill Dickerson, Kieth Cockerham, and Daniel Dickers. Honorary pallbearers will be Edwin Johnson and Bustin Dickerson.
