Ruth Pope Harris

1919-2006

Ruth Pope Harris, 87, of McComb, died Sept. 24, 2006, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb and 9 a.m. Wednesday until services there at 11 a.m. Bro. Ed Sudduth will officiate. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery in McComb.

Mrs. Harris was born June 13, 1919, in Dentville, to Georgia Barker Pope Hodges and Robert Ray Pope.

She was retired, and she and her late husband managed the old Jitney Jungle grocery store. She was a member of First Baptist Church of McComb, where she was active in Sunday school and W.M.U. She was a member of the Sunnyhill Homemakers Club and had been active with the Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Red Hatters.

Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Harris; her brother, Ray Pope; and her granddaughter, Mary Ruth Harris.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jack L. and Charlotte Harris of Hattiesburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Randy Wylie of Whitney, Texas; four grandchildren, J. Harris of Auckland, New Zealand, Jon Harris of Ocean Springs, James Harris of New York City and Nathan Wylie of Austin, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Anslee Harris and Evan Harris, both of Ocean Springs.

Pallbearers will be Roddy Davis, Balfour Lipscomb, Slick Payne, Ardell Frazier, Bruce Payne, Nathan Wylie, James Harris and Jon Harris.
