R. Davis Haygood Sr.

1930-2008

R. Davis Haygood Sr., 78, of McComb, died May 27, 2008, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. Visitation is 5 to 8 tonight at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb, then 9 a.m. Thursday at South McComb Baptist Church until services there at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Ted Bowlin, Dr. David Millican and the Rev. Jimmy Houston officiating. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

Mr. Haygood was born Jan. 14, 1930, in Pike County. He was the son of Rube Rivers Haygood and Mary Bama Reed Montgomery. He was the retired owner of Central Beverage Company in McComb and was a very active member of South McComb Baptist Church.

Mr. Haygood was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Haygood. Survivors include his wife, Elsie Whittington Haygood of McComb; six children and their spouses, R. Davis Haygood Jr. of Fernwood, Ricky Lamar and Teresa Haygood of Magnolia, Robin R. and Terry McDaniel, Sherry R. and Dickie McDaniel, Kenneth L. Whittington, and Davis C. and Alison Haygood, all of McComb; a brother, Steve Montgomery of McComb; an aunt, Erma Arickson of Tylertown; 11 grandchildren, Michael Haygood, William Haygood, Eric Haygood, Anthony Haygood, Terri Anne Clements, Zachery McDaniel, Austin Whittington, Tanner Whittington, Gavin Whittington, Greta Whittington and Sam Haygood; six great-grandchildren, Michael Lee Haygood, Adam Haygood, Gage Perkins, Jacob Haygood, Zach Haygood and Kate Clements; and numerous cousins and other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Pete Dickerson, Michael Clements, Bobby Thomas, Eddie Murray, Mark Shepherd and Ralph Barlow. Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Felder and Rayford Kirkland.
