Lura Lee Byrd Cowart, 95, of Denham Springs, La., died May 29, 2006, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. Visitation is 10 a.m. Thursday at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb until services there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Tim Boswell will officiate, and burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.
Mrs. Cowart was born July 4, 1910, in Lexie, to Walter Lee Byrd and Mary Florence Pepper Byrd.
She had lived in Denham Springs for the past 16 months and had lived in McComb for 36 years and in Plaquemines Parish in Louisiana for nearly 20 years.
She loved cooking, sewing, needlework and caring for her home and family. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and participated regularly in services and activities until failing health deterred her.
Mrs. Cowart was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, James Lafayette Cowart; a son, James Ralph Cowart; four sisters and five brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Cowart Spence; a daughter-in-law, Sharla Clipper Cowart; granddaughters, Jamie Toney Brill, Susan Johnson, Wanda Jones and Terry Travis; grandsons, James Michael Cowart and John David Cowart; 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are James Cowart, John David Cowart, Randy Jones, Chris Jones, Joey Aucoin and Charles Reagan.
