Danny D. Miller

1935-2008

Danny D. Miller, 73, of Magnolia and the Lewiston community near Kentwood, La., died June 27, 2008, at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, La. Visitation is 9 a.m. Tuesday at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb until services there at noon. The Rev. Troy Bankston and Dr. Danny Smith will officiate, and burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

Mr. Miller was born March 10, 1935, in Mt. Hermon, La., to Mervin and Netta Bateman Miller. He was a retired truck driver, having worked at Multi Craft in Tylertown, Croft Metals and Jimmy Smith Trucking Co. He was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church in Kentwood and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Miller’s family said he loved to ride his tractor bush hogging and doing other work outdoors, and he enjoyed raising catfish. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Kathryn Simmons Miller; a son, Gary Miller; and a great-grandson, Dwight Chisholm.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Jackson Miller of Lewiston; a daughter, Dana Miller Chisholm of Loranger, La.; a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Kristin McCalip Miller of Magnolia; three stepsons, Paul Miller and wife Suzanne of Husser, La., Laird Miller of Ocean Springs and Calvin Miller and wife Lorraine of Hammond; two brothers, Donald Miller of Franklinton, La., and Bobby Miller of Zachary, La.; four sisters, Mary Stollenwrock, Margie Stewart and Betty McCain, all of Kentwood, and Bonnie Jones of Franklinton; nine grandchildren, Katy Graves, Lee Chisholm, and Kyle and Eddie Miller, all of Magnolia, Shellee and Cary Chisholm, both of McComb, Sonya Watts of Loranger and Alexis and Abigail Miller, both of Ocean Springs; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

Pallbearers are Chris Miller, Lee Chisholm, Carey Chisholm, Steve Simmons, Snuffy Smith and Joey Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be Hiram McCleland, Scott Walker and Britt Simmons.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Spring Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 72937 Highway 1061, Kentwood, LA 70444.
