Sister Christine Moix
1920-2008
SSND Sister Christine Moix, 88, of St. Mary of the Pines in
Chatawa, died there April 26, 2008. Morning prayer and visitation
will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Teresa Church in Chatawa. The
Eucharistic Celebration will follow at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Malcolm
O’Leary, SVD will be the celebrant. Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home of
McComb is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Chatawa
Cemetery.
Christine Moix was born March 19, 1920, in Conway, Ark., the
daughter and the fifth of of 11 children of Peter Moix and Anna
Byrne Moix. Christine began her studies to become a School Sister of
Notre Dame in St. Louis in 1936. She pronounced her vows as a member
of this congregation in 1939. During her early years of her ministry
she was known as Sister M. Isabel.
Sister was assigned to the care of young people at Madonna Manor in
Marrero, La., and later to the care of young religious in St. Louis.
She taught, mostly in the primary grades, in Missouri, Louisiana and
Texas. In the late seventies Sister served the community in Rome.
She taught in Mississippi schools at St. Theresa in Jackson, St.
Francis in Brookhaven and was principal of the school in Laurel.
Sister Christine was a pastoral assistant in Our Lady of Fatima
Parish in Dangerfield, Texas.
From this last assignment Sister Christine came to St. Mary of the
Pines in 1992. Here until the time of her death, as her health would
allow, she contributed to the many community activities and
services.
Sister Christine was preceded in death by her parents and nine
siblings. Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Lockwood of El Dorado,
Ark.; and a number of devoted nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are
members of the Charles R. Brill Council of the Knights of Columbus.
