Marvin F. Powell

1934-2006

Marvin F. Powell Sr., 72, of McComb, died July 6, 2006, at McComb Extended Care after a lengthy illness.

Visitation is 5 to 9 tonight at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb, and 9 a.m. Saturday until services there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Rick Kennedy and Pastor Kenny Roy Coleman will officiate. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery in McComb.

Mr. Powell was born Feb. 9, 1934, in McComb to James F. “Freddie” Powell and Edis Hardy Powell.

He was a parts man for Day Motors and Peterbilt for 35 years. He was a member of New Heights Baptist Church. He was a city bus driver and a city taxi driver and made the “best hamburgers in town” at Taste and Sips.

Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Ronnie Nickles.

Survivors include his companion of 18 years, Joyce Sandifer of McComb; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Marvin F. “Brother” Powell Jr. of Prairieville, La., and Thomas L. and Jennifer Powell of Wesson; two daughters and one son-in-law, Susan Powell-Nickles of McComb, and Carolyn Powell-Distler and Dale of Branson, Mo.; two brothers, James Thomas “Tommy” Powell of Ocean Springs and Jerry Leon Powell of Pearl; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ryan C. Nickles, Kenny Powell, B.J. McKenzie, Jonathan Powell, Richard Barr, Thomas Powell Jr., James Powell Jr. and James Earl White.
