Sister Rosarita was born Stella Rouch on May 3, 1917, in Washington Park, Ill., 10th of 13 children to Antonia Grenis Rouch and Joseph Rouce.

She followed her older sister, Sister Aimee Rouch as she entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in St. Louis in 1934. At reception Stella was given the name Mary Rosarita. She professed her first vows as a member of the congregation in 1937.

Sister Rosarita prepared to teach with study at Notre Dame College in St. Louis. She received degrees from Loyola University in New Orleans and from Western Reserve University in Cleveland. She brought her teaching skills first to primary grade children then to children with special needs during her nearly 60 years in the classroom in the New Orleans area. Her special gift for teaching the hearing impaired enabled so many to take their part in the normal hearing world. This care she gave to those enrolled in the Chinchuba Institute for the Deaf in Marrero, La., for 33 years. Part of that time she was administrator of the Institute. She instructed such classes for the hearing impaired at Holy Savior Lockport, La., during the 15 years prior to her retirement to St. Mary of the Pines, Chatawa, in 1996.

Sister Rosarita was preceded in death by her parents and 11 siblings.

She is survived by her sister, Bernice Wood of Collinsville, Ill.

The Knights of Columbus will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials to honor Sister Rosarita may be sent to School Sisters of Notre Dame, St. Mary of the Pines, Chatawa, MS 39632.
