Norma Dean Greenlee Sterling
1932-2008
Norma Dean Greenlee Sterling, 75, of Hammond, La., died there
July 1, 2008, at North Oaks Medical Center. Visitation is 9 a.m.
Saturday at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb until services
there at 11 a.m., with Jimmy Blalock officiating. Burial will be in
Hollywood Cemetery.
Mrs. Sterling was born July 7, 1932, in McComb. She was the daughter
of Dave and Bessie Davis Greenlee. She was a homemaker and a member
of St. Rose Baptist Church in St. Rose, La., where she taught Sunday
school for many years.
Her family said Mrs. Sterling was an avid reader, having read daily
in Guideposts and her Bible. She was also an avid birdwatcher and a
person who loved the outdoors, especially working in her flower
garden. But probably her most favorite thing to do was to cook
special meals for her seven children.
Mrs. Sterling was preceded in death by her parents; her husband,
Hyman Clinton Sterling; three brothers, Clyde, Dave and Johnny
Greenlee; and four sisters, Joyce Sandifer, Bea Daniels, Anice
Sterling and Helen Wilson.
Survivors include her seven children, Norman Sterling and friend
Louana Bigner, and Gerry Sterling and wife Kathleen, all of Loranger,
La., Peggy Smith Sterling of Tickfaw, La., Larry Sterling and wife
Charlotte of Pass Christian, Jim Sterling and fiancee Sheila
Wallace, and Judy Gaspard and husband Mark, all of Albany, La., and
Myra Timberlake and friend Kenny G. of Kiln; two sisters, Betty Jean
Burris of Long Beach and Estelle Blalock of Liberty; 22
grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; her dearest friends, Dixie
Boyd, Lillian Newman and Aunt Verna; and numerous nieces, nephews,
other family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Mrs. Sterling’s grandsons.
