Opal Lee O’Neal Wilkinson

1919-2008


Opal Lee O’Neal Wilkinson, 89, of McComb, died June 3, 2008, at her daughter’s home in Clinton, La. Visitation is 5 to 8 tonight at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb and 9 a.m. Thursday at Central Baptist Church until services there at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Bob Lynch and Dr. David Millican officiating. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

Mrs. Wilkinson was born March 23, 1919, in Summit to Frank Howard and Ella Stephens O’Neal. She was a retired sales clerk at Kellwood Outlet and was a member of Central Baptist Church for more than 60 years, where she taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the Miriam and Alpha Sunday School classes. Her family said she was a devoted Christian and loving wife and ma maw. She touched many lives of those who knew her. She was a kind, gentle and loving lady and angel who loved her family and church family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 66 years, Charles Ray Wilkinson; two sisters, Evelyn Pittman and Ailene Wilkinson; a brother, Thomas H. O’Neal; a son-in-law, Roy Swarts Sr.; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Van; and a brother-in-law, Phillip Wilkinson.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Swarts of Clinton, La; a special friend and cousin, Dot Hill of Huffman, Texas; a brother-in-law, Jimmie Van Sr. of McComb; two sisters-in-law, Jimmie O’Neal of Summit and Edith Wilkinson of McComb; three grandchildren, Roy “Skeeter” Swarts Jr. and wife Greta of Denham Springs, La., Kristy Hubbard and husband Gerald “Bo” Hubbard Jr. of Clinton and Jeremy Swarts and wife Kimberly of Watson, La.; four great-grandchildren, Randi Swarts and Toni Swarts, both of Denham Springs, Trey Hubbard of Clinton and Cameron Swarts of Watson; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends, including her hospice nurse Kathy Lewis of Prairieville, La., Angela Hagan of Zachary, La., and Debbie Tullier of Central, La., and a loving canine friend, Paco.

Pallbearers will be Jimmie Van Jr., Woody Bass, Louis Roberts, Jerry Van, Ronnie Wilkinson and Jesse Greer.
